And Why You Need to Be at the Crimson Hawk #2 Release Party!

For so many parents, watching their child struggle with reading feels frustrating and heartbreaking. You know your child is intelligent, creative, and full of potential—but when it comes to sitting down with a book, they shut down. The fight to get them to read, even for just a few minutes, feels like a constant battle.

And you’re not alone.

📖 The Truth About Reading Struggles
Right now, nearly 66% of U.S. fourth graders are reading below proficiency levels. Studies have shown that if a child struggles with reading early on and doesn’t get the right intervention, it can impact their confidence, academic performance, and future opportunities.

For neurodivergent children, highly creative kids, and those who thrive in more engaging, hands-on learning environments, traditional reading methods simply don’t work.

Dull, standardized reading logs feel like homework.
Phonics drills lack the adventure and storytelling kids crave.
Text-heavy books can overwhelm struggling readers.

But what if we could turn reading into an adventure? What if we could bring stories to life in a way that excites kids and keeps them coming back for more?

Comics Are the Game-Changer in Literacy

Comic books and graphic novels aren’t just entertainment—they’re one of the most powerful literacy tools we have.

Here’s why they work so well:

They make reading easier – The combination of images and text helps struggling readers decode language, follow the story, and build comprehension skills.
They keep kids engaged – Dynamic visuals, action-packed plots, and relatable characters make reading fun, not frustrating.
They help expand vocabularyKids naturally learn new words in context, which strengthens their language skills.
They build confidence – Unlike dense, text-heavy books, comics provide an accessible, visually engaging way for kids to feel successful while reading.
They inspire creativity – Comics aren’t just about reading—they encourage kids to write, draw, and create their own stories, boosting their imagination.

And at Adroit Comics, we’re proving just how powerful comics can be through our diverse, morally grounded stories designed to entertain and educate.

Adroit Comics, News

What an epic weekend! Tampa Bay Comic Convention 2024 was truly amazing. Once again, FanExpo has done a spectacular job at hosting such a dynamic and well-planned event.

We were honored to host, not one, but two workshops this weekend!

The titles were “The Comic Book Genius Project” and “create Your Own Comic Book Workshop.” Both sessions were filled to capacity, standing room only. When we saw that all of the seats were filled, Mannie and I both said a silent prayer of thankfulness.

You can work so hard at your passion for years, and years, pushing through the challenges — believe it that the day will come when everything falls into place. Well, this event definitely fell into place, in a major way.

We were thrilled for our first presentation at the Atlanta Comic Convention back in 2023. Then the year that followed was truly a doozy. We experienced a house fire that really flipped our lives upside down, in more ways than one. But we’ve been blessed every step of the way.

And now, we can officially say that our experience this weekend was even more awesome than last time.

What great workshops!

In our presentations, we explored the creative process of story telling, the development of engaging characters, and comic books being a key to unlocking genius in exceptional minds!

Our attendees were a diverse group of people of all ages, and everyone was fully engaged in our presentation. They were able to ask such great questions, and share their insights on what makes for rich character creation, setting, and more.

Shout Outs

We met some super amazing people this weekend— A professor of animation from Egypt, parents who appreciated our mission of creating epic reads with a sound moral compass, and other creators who have been working hard at their passions.

However, one gentleman came as quite a surprise! DMC (of the legendary hip-hop group Run DMC) was in the house!

He was promoting his comic book company “Daryl Makes Comics” and his new cookie company “Daryl Makes Cookies.” Absolutely brilliant. We also got to catch his interview. It was candid, moving, and inspirational.

We also want to send a special shout out to our crew! Our four daughters, Amirah, Asha, Asanti, Amaziah — and our niece, Akeba — all did so much to help make this week a success. Thank you ladies for working as our photographers, videographers, and overall helpers. We couldn’t do this without you!

We also want to thank our Flowing Rivers parents who believe in our mission, and have supported us in changing the world one comic book, and one kid at a time!

One more thank you goes out to Croix and the entire team at FanX Events for hosting such and epic weekend!

Stay tuned for more exciting news!

Peace, Love, and Comics,
Zee and Mannie
