Interview by Eshe Furaha

Music, dining, dancing, and “The Beautiful People” . . . What more could a social butterfly need in life? Or better yet, what could they need in their nightlife? Discerning partygoers have refined tastes and crave social experiences that they will never forget. It’s not easy finding the perfect combination of location, entertainment, and style.

Though it is not easy task, it seems the owners of the newest “It Club” of Capital City, Club Lavish, have definitely hit the mark. According to the murmurs of New Arkton’s most influential socialites, Club Lavish is certainly “Where it’s at!” — as the young people say. From politicians to movie producers, the city’s most notable names have been spotted on Lavish’s red carpet. And there’s no shortage of everyday people lined up, hoping to get a glimpse of the fascinating events unfolding inside.

Yes, ladies and gents, it seems there is a new contender vying for the title of New Arkton’s best night club. Especially now that Giseppe’s Lounge has closed its doors, due to a mysterious fire. Though they will be missed, it won’t be for long. Club Lavish has certainly superseded Giseppe’s as the finest club in town. It has bigger and better music acts, five star cuisine, and impeccable decor that would impress even the most royal of royals.

Owned by the experienced entertainment entrepreneur, Marquis LeBlanc, Club Lavish seems to have found that mysterious formula for long lasting success. But only time will tell if they can keep it up. Located in the heart of historic New Arkton, the location used to be The Olde Dullen Theatre.

Natives of Capital City will no doubt remember the theater back in it’s heyday. It was built at the height of New Arkton’s glittery and glamorous days of high society, dripping with wealth. The building is filled with artisan crafted fixtures and sculptures. It was constructed way back in 2990 for the “Capital City World’s Fair and Exhibition of Modern Human Ingenuity.” From the floorboards to the chandeliers, you can see that no expense was spared in the building of this monumental structure. Undoubtedly, there must have been equal care and expense given to the renovation and restoration of this historic gem.

“Groovy Baby! Groovy!” Shouts Marquis LeBlanc as he boasts over his current and past successes. “We’ve got the hottest ticket in the city, and that’s a fact Jack! The only joint that can give us a run for our money is The Groove Palace! But here’s the catch, Cap’n!” He continues dramatically, “We own that one too! Ha, ha, ha!”

As boastful as he may sound, Marquis has sound foundation for his claims. His Las Gracias venue has certainly made its mark on the city. The biggest names in entertainment can be found there any night of the week.

But let us not forget about his beautiful songstress and “partner in crime”, Miss Lola Foxx. After selling out shows night after night at the Groove Palace, we’re confident her shows in New Arkton will be even more spectacular!

Before concluding our interview, LeBlanc had this to say:

“Listen up cool cats! Here’s a message to all my folks who really know how to par-tay. Ya dig? Club Lavish is the new “It Club” of Capital City! It’s happening in a super groovy way baby! The grand opening is in just a few weeks, but we’ve got exclusive events lined up every night! The baddest names in music and film have already walked the red carpet. You know what I’m sayin’? Just last week, Donna Strong and TriLand Films hosted a preview party for ‘The Blue Mammoth.’ I’m tellling you, we’re going to blow up, just like that movie did at the box office. I mean, it should be illegal for a club to be this popular, before opening night! Ha, ha, ha! But that’s how we do baby. Keepin’ the groove real smooth.”

Their bats were silent and New Arkton had a rookie on the mound. No problem.

On a day when the Bears struggled to string together much offense, the club got a big boost from 23-year-old starter Gary Cox. The left-hander quieted the Capital City Monarchs at Walnut Street Stadium to help New Arkton take the 2-1 decision and seize a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-7 League Championship Series.

Cox gave New Arkton a solid start. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit over 6 innings.

“If I go out there and help the team win, that’s all you can do,” said Cox.

Game 3 is set to be played Sunday at Monarchs Ballpark. The scheduled starters for the game are Hector Gomez for New Arkton and Kenta Takano for Capital City.

At the age of 22, Bucky Hayes of the New Arkton Bears could very well have his best years ahead of him.

It’s a startling thought when you consider the year he had in 3073 was good enough to win the center fielder the National League Most Valuable Player Award.

“See the ball, hit the ball,” he said. “That’s my basic approach.”

The top hitter put up a .411 batting average this year, as well as a .537 on-base percentage. He played 157 games and racked up 232 hits, 26 doubles, 15 triples, 56 home runs, 182 RBIs and 191 runs scored.

He received 23 first place votes out of a possible 24. Brian Duncan of the New Arkton Bears finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while Gary Cox of the New Arkton Bears finished third.

It was a brisk afternoon as I walked through the busy streets of New Arkton. My mind was moving still piecing together information from the many stories I was working on. But wasn’t that always the case? There was always another mystery to solve, another cover-up to uncover. However, today I had more on my mind than just work.

I’m not big on talking about feelings, emotions, and other sappy stuff like that. My life is based on cold, hard facts. But even guys like me have a heart. This afternoon my mind was consumed with both family and personal life. Both of these issues were big deals to me, even though I rarely, if ever, took personal time. Maybe that’s the problem.

Yesterday I had a big argument with my girlfriend. At least I hoped she was still my girlfriend. After that argument, I wasn’t too sure. We’ve been dating for a while, but it just seems like we’re on two different pages in life.

She was in the news biz too. But she looked at things differently than I did. My goal always has, and always will be to bust open the secret files of government officials, military operations, giant corporations, or anybody who is up to no good. She simply didn’t feel that way.

“Ahhhhhh,” I let out a groan of frustration.

The streets were filled with plenty of people walking about. A lady looked at me strangely as she passed by. I just shrugged my shoulders and kept walking. Women could be so confusing at times.

Step by step, second by second, I made my way through the crowded streets. It was easy to get lost in the shuffle of Capital City. Some days I could just walk and walk, letting the sounds of the city drown out my frustrations.

As I drew closer to my destination, my mind shifted to the other situation at hand. That family issue I mentioned before. Well, to be truthful, I don’t have too much family to speak of. My parents have been gone for some time now, and my siblings and I aren’t the best of chums. Though we do try to stay in touch. My sister Savannah lives on the other side of country. We send letters ever so often, and birthdays are celebrated with a call.

To the contrary, my brother Dexter, lives right here in Capital City. Sometimes he’s around New Arkton, sometimes he’s in Collinsville. You never quite know where he’ll end up. Dex is what some people would call a drifter always moving around from place to place. We both spent some time in the military, but it affected us differently. And he’s had a rougher time about it than me.

But no matter where he may be, we meet for lunch every month, at the same diner. It’s been a longstanding tradition of ours for years now. We even sit in the same booth every single time, never fail. It was always good to see him, and know that he was alright, even if he didn’t look all that great.

As I approached the diner entrance, I could see him standing to the side waiting for me. He never tried to go in before I arrived. He was always too nervous. I walked up to him and gave him a warm brotherly embrace.

“Dex! My main man! How’s it goin’ brotha’?” I asked with a smile.

“Oh it’s all good, little bro! How’ve you been?” He replied.

His smile was a little crooked, and his eyes seemed glassed over. Something about him was different. I took a step back and gave him a good look from top to bottom. He looked better than I’d seen him in a while. His clothes, shoes, hair, everything looked clean.

“What? You didn’t get all dressed up on my account, did you?” I joked and punched his shoulder.

“Aww man, naw,” he laughed, though he looked a little embarrassed.

“Come on,” I said, “Let’s grab our table. I’m starving!”

He just nodded and followed me inside.

When we were seated, I had to keep from staring at him. Sure, he looked cleaned up, but something just seemed different, odd, strange even. Not that the fella had been this pillar of normalcy over the years. But I was used to his scruffy face, and far off looks. This new version of Dexter had me wondering what was going on?

We ordered our food, and talked about things like we usually did. Then he let me in on his big news.

“I’m a little nervous talking about it,” he said between bites. “I just don’t wanna jinx it, you know? But here it is, I got new job!”

That was big news, and of course I was happy for the man.

“That’s great Dex! What kind of job?” I asked.

He paused for a moment, and looked off into the distance as though he was in deep thought.
“You know, I’m not really sure what I’ll be doing. Something about clean energy sources. Right now I’m in their ‘Transitionary Intake and Training Program’.”

Dexter stayed frozen in place for a few seconds. I stayed still myself, trying to figure out what was going on with him. Then suddenly, his trance broke and he went right back to eating.

Chewing slowly, I took a deep breath. “So, what’s the name of the company?”

“You know what,” he said with a smile “I can’t even remember!” He just laughed, shrugged, and kept eating his burger.”

I just tried to nod encouragingly. With Dex you never knew what to expect. I hoped that something good could come out of this.

After lunch, I usually tried to give him a few dollars to help out. But today he refused.
“It’s ok little bro, I don’t need it. I’m alright.”

“Are you sure? Man you know, like I always said, I’m here for you. You can come stay with me anytime. I hope things work out good with the job and all. But you can crash at my pad whenever you need to.”

“And what do I always say? I don’t want to give you my problems Curtis. Don’t worry about me,” he replied with a pat on my back.

As he walked away, my big brother shouted, “I’ll see you next month, same time, same place.”

“You know it!” I shouted back. I looked forward to next month and hoped Dex would have more good news.

Capital City, Capital City Mysteries, Eboni Stone, New Arkton, New Sienna

The young Mrs. King was visibly nervous, but she pushed through.

“Well, you see, Ms. Stone, Micheal has always been a good man. Sometimes he may get a little ahead of himself with all his crazy schemes and ideas, but he’s a good man,” she finished with an awkward chuckle.

Michael King, Michael King? Eboni’s focus shifted away from what Cherry was saying. Our detective was sure that she’d heard that name before.

“Michael King,” she interrupted, “ Sorry to cut you off, but I’m sure I’ve heard that name before. Cherry looked over at her mother-in-law nervously.

Eboni continued to think aloud, “Hmmm, didn’t I hear about him on the news? That’s right. If I’m not mistaken, his name was mentioned in a story about a paper company shipping stolen goods…”

Suddenly the elder Mrs. Duke rapped her cane on the wooden floor, making a loud thud.“My son is innocent!” she said in a surprisingly loud voice. Eboni was taken aback. She could see that this woman was passionate about her son, his innocence, and his whereabouts. Eboni only hoped that there was a happy ending to this tale.

“Well ma’am, I can say this. I don’t know your son personally, but it’s clear to me that he has at least two strong fighters in his corner,” Eboni said with (what she hope was) an encouraging smile.

“Can we count on you Mrs. Stone? Will you help us find my son? I don’t care what those police, or those know-it-alls on that television set have to say about my boy! I gave birth to him! Don’t you think I would know what he is and is not capable of?!”

Mrs. King eyes were pleading, though her voice tried to have some semblance of decorum. Eboni could tell that manners and propriety were highly important to her. So the emotion that she was showing certainly pulled at the detective’s heart strings.

Eboni sat silently for a moment, wanting to be delicate about her next words. She knew she couldn’t say what she was thinking — that many criminals had mothers who couldn’t believe it was true. A sigh escaped her lips as she silently prayed that this son would be an exception. “Alright, she began, “ I can’t make any promises. But, I can disregard whatever I may have heard on the news and listen to your story. I just need you to tell me everything you know, even if you think it looks bad for Mike. I give you my word that I will do whatever I can to help. I take it, you’re confident that he is innocent?” she asked, though of course she already knew the answer.

Cherry’s eyes lit up. It was obvious that she had so much to say, but wasn’t sure where to begin. However, Mrs. Edith’s face held a shadow of embarrassment.

“Ms. Stone,” she began, “I’d like to apologize for my outburst. I’ve just been so upset by the entire situation!”

“I can certainly understand Mrs. King. No apology needed. Believe me, I want to help. Just tell me what you know and we can go from there,” Eboni replied kindly.

They both let out a sigh of relief, she could see that they believed her. It was good they did because she meant every word. Cherry opened her mouth and a floodgate came rushing out.

It’s a dark and stormy night, and I’ve got a lot on my mind. Sitting quietly at my desk, I’m wondering what’s our next step? What is the best move to make?

Pops, Likka and I have had quite the journey in our years together. It has been around ten years since they had found me in the jungle.I have no recollection of that day, or anything that came before it, really.

That was a crazy time for me. But I know how much stronger I am now. I couldn’t have become The Crimson Hawk if I’d never gone through the roughest time of my life – at least that I can remember.
One day I woke up on a soft cot in a grass hut. The air was filled with sounds of birds chirping and monkeys howling. The most pleasant smell filled my nose, and I was instantly at ease.

Though my vision was blurry, I could make out my surroundings. As I tried to sit up, a sharp pain exploded in the back of my head. I reached back to feel what had happened, but there was a thick bandage covering the injury. The pain was so intense that I fell back down onto the cot.

I must’ve made a loud groan of pain. Almost immediately a sweet little woman with almond shaped eyes and bright red hair rushed into the room.

“Oh you are awake!” she said with joy. Quickly worry filled her voice. “But you must not get up. It is too soon for you to be up!”

Deliberately she turned to the entrance and shouted, ”My Dear! My Dear! Our young patient is awake. Hurry please!”

“Wha…” I tried to a speak, but my mouth felt so weak
What happened to me?!
What’s wrong with me?!
Where am I?!
Who am I?!!!

These were the questions that I wanted to scream out. But I couldn’t get my mouth to cooperate. This strange woman seemed sweet, and I felt she could be trusted. But nothing was making any sense at the moment.

Just then a strong and imposing man made his way into the hut. This guy had a calm demeanor, but his eyes were filled with concern and distrust.

“I want to know who you are. How can we trust you? What were you doing out there? Are you a New Sienna soldier?” he asked as he pulled up a chair to sit directly in front of my face.
“Who…” I tried to speak, but once again the words wouldn’t come out.
“Who are you?!” I yelled out inside.

My inability to speak was frustrating and overwhelming. I could see his anger rising, and that made me even more upset. My head began to throb again, as I tried to make sense of everything. I was gettin’ nowhere fast. The woman I now know as Likka, made her way to my side.

“Don’t worry young man. You’re going to be alright. It’s been months since we found you. You’ve been in some sort of a coma. But it wasn’t like anything we’ve seen before. You were dreaming and restless, but totally incoherent.

One day, we heard a big explosion while traveling through the jungle. We rushed to see if anyone needed help. When we arrived, we found you, and only you. Your vital signs were weak, so we brought you here hoping we could help save your life. Since then we’ve just been praying and watching over you. I have been doing what I can to keep you alive, but your body is weak. In time you will heal. But right now you must rest.”

Brian Duncan kept the opposition off the scoreboard and the New Arkton Bears were all smiles after winning 6-0 against the Dearborne Pilots at Cadets Ballpark today. The right-handed Duncan gave up no runs in his start, permitted 7 hits and had 13 strikeouts.

“If there was a stat for ‘team shutout,’ this would be it,” Duncan said later. “My catcher called a great game, guys delivered at the plate and when I messed something up the guys behind me were where they needed to be.”

So far this season, Duncan has logged a 30-3 record with a 0.72 ERA. He has started 35 games, hurled 302 innings and registered 453 strikeouts and 24 walks.

Good Evening Capital City! Shavonne Thompson here with a special report.

Just last night, an innocent family was accosted in an alley outside the Larkspur Theater. The unsuspecting Wayans family had gone out with fun times on their mind. They’d made a trip all the way from Hampton Heights for the premiere of The Blue Mammoth. Little did they know, a real life terror awaited them.

After leaving the movie theater, it seems Mr. Wayans wanted to show his wife and son a little bit of his old neighborhood. Little did he know, much had changed over the years. As they were making their way down the alley, things suddenly took a turn for the worst. They were confronted by a ruffian who had been waiting for some unsuspecting target. He held them up at gun point demanding their valuables. Stunned, the family froze in fear. That’s when, according to our sources, the attacker grabbed for Mrs. Wayans’ pearl necklace. It broke under the strain and scattered pearls across the ground.

As bad as this story sounds, hold. This is where things turnaround.

Just when the family feared that their days were done, some concerned citizen jumped in to help. We don’t know this secret defender’s identity. Or what he looks like. We only know that he seemingly appeared out of nowhere, incapacitated the attacker, and disappeared into the darkness.

Mr. And Mrs. Wayans quickly alerted the police, who came and apprehended the now unconscious assailant. Of course, we’re working to get an exclusive interview with the Wayans family to hear a first hand account of their harrowing experience.

We are certainly happy to know that this story has a happy ending. Crime has definitely been on the rise in our fair city. However, it seems like someone, somewhere, is trying to fight back. Who could this mystery defender be? That’s what we want to know.

If anyone has clues or information that could help identify our anonymous defender, be sure to contact the ABN Newsroom today!

In closing, I must say that it’s nice to know there are people who still care out there. Hopefully this will be a new trend in Capital City. Perhaps we can change our city’s course towards “Crime Capital” to “Compassion Capital.”

Stay Groovy Capital City! This is Shavonne Thompson signing off.

People come from across the world to marvel at our city’s sophistication, architecture, cuisine, and entertainment. With everything Capital City has to offer, it’s easy to see why so many fine folks have made it their home.

The oldest district in the city is Capital Island. It was the original capital of New Sienna upon its founding in 2867. Over the centuries, the settlement grew, and outlying communities officially became a part of the capital. Though Capital Island is the most historic, New Arkton comes in as a close second.

Second in age only by a few years, New Arkton was founded as a settlement of immigrants from Old Arkton across the Aquilla Sea. The Vonderdöm family, of course, had a great deal to do with its establishment and growth over the years. Though it cannot bear the distinction of the most historic, New Arkton has certainly earned the titles of most exciting, most developed and perhaps, most intriguing.

Of course, New Arkton has its fair share of historic sights. The New Arkton Stock Exchange, on the south side of the district, is still one of the oldest buildings in the city. Erected in 2982 by the Royal Commerce Commission, this building has always been a representation of wealth in New Sienna.

Then there are the Royal Triconite Towers on the northern bank of Capital Bay. Built in 2983 by the Nubãkaru family, this trio of edifices has become an international symbol for the progressiveness and prosperity of New Sienna. An amazing feat of architecture, these towers are home to some of the most prominent and successful corporations in the world.

If architecture isn’t your cup of tea, perhaps the theatre might tickle your fancy. New Arkton is home to the biggest Theatre District in the country, and one of the largest in all the realm. Up and down Byron Jacquet Boulevard, visitors can find an abundance of theatrical venues showcasing the brightest names in entertainment. No matter your preference, comedy, drama or musical, there’s a show to appease even the most discerning theater-goer.

Just north of the Theatre District, you can find some of the most amazing shops and restaurants. Mimi’s Cafe has become quite a hit with their innovative Mira Mira fusion cuisine. They’ve won numerous awards for both their menu and ambiance. However, if you’re in the mood for something a little more casual, then you must pay a visit to Flasheen Express! This restaurant chain launched in Las Gracias and made its way to the streets of New Arkton.

From food to fashion, history to entertainment, New Arkton has what you’re looking for! If you never been to Capital City, then you’re certainly missing out. So book your flight today, and choose New Arkton as the epicenter of your vacation excursion.

Billy Prince, Capital City, New Arkton

In a city full of glitz and glamour, few people truly know what’s really going on. There’s an old saying, “All that glitters ain’t gold.” It rings true in many ways, especially in Capital City! Many, many people are captivated by the bright lights and exciting nightlife. But how would they feel if they could get a tiny glimpse of life behind the scenes?

Surprised would be an understatement. The vast majority of partygoers would be flabbergasted if they found out their favorite lounge was fueled by the criminal underworld. As shocking as it may sound, this is most certainly the case.

The new and highly popular Club Lavish has been lauded by the city’s most elite publications. Their red carpets have already welcomed the city’s most powerful and prominent politicians and celebrities. However, this establishment us hiding some pretty big secrets. . . Bigger than most can imagine.

You may have read the interviews of Marquis LeBlanc with all his fast talk and fancy threads. But it’s all an illusion – an act of misdirection. Marquis is no more the owner of Club Lavish than the Blue Mammoth is Mayor of Capital City. After gaining more investigative experience, you soon discover that the individuals making the most noise, and wearing the shiniest outfits, are rarely in charge. It may seem like they are, but there is most likely a big boss giving them orders.

LeBlanc puts on a good show, but the workers at Club Lavish all know the truth. . . Billy Prince runs the show. Quietly he makes his way through the building everyday, inspecting the tiniest of details. He is a commanding figure, the epitome of style and charm. Yet not a soul dares to speak to him with first being spoken to.

However, the big question is, “Who is Billy Prince?” No one knows exactly where he came from. Some say he was born in Sapphire Beach, while others speculate he hails from Hellenwood. One thing is for certain, he showed up and took criminal underworld by storm. Somehow he’s built connections with people so powerful that it seems he’s untouchable.

Even the mayor and police chief have been spotted in the luxurious halls of Club Lavish. One only wonders what they could be discussing in there. With connections like that, there’s no telling how high Prince’s influence truly reaches.

Some investigators have connected him with Rupert Bigelow, the self appointed crime king of Capital City. However, these suspicions have not been confirmed. Furthermore, there are also rumors of Prince having some ties to The Milita, an anarchist rebellion group that has infiltrated numerous governments over the last decade. However, this is also unconfirmed.

This Billy Prince is one smooth character. In seemingly no time at all, he’s made an undeniable impression on Capital City. Only time can reveal his true intentions. Though this man is quite an enigma, we do know two things. First, he’s definitely up to no good. Second, he is not a man to be trifled with.

The ultimate man of mystery, even to himself, Max Norton is a man without a history — at least not one he remembers. Stricken with amnesia almost ten years ago, Max has been on a mission to discover who he is, and what really happened to him. You could call it an obsession, really. Faced with the same obstacles, there are many people who would have given up.

With no ties to the past, it’s awfully hard to make plans for the future. This simple fact has forced Max to live in the moment, and make the most of every second. He knows that whoever or whatever wiped out his memory certainly could have killed him. For his life, he’s thankful and counts his blessings everyday.

Though he is plagued with problems of his own, Max has not wallowed in pity, focused solely on his own needs. He has dedicated his life to helping others. Something deep, down inside, just won’t let him stop fighting for the innocent, even if it’s to his own detriment. Sometimes he thinks it must be ingrained in his soul.

When he woke up in the jungles of Keyoshi, all those years ago, he had no idea where he was, or who he was. In many ways, he’d even forgotten what he was. Had he been a good man? Had he done the right things in life? What could have led him to the moment when he seemingly lost everything? These were questions that he’d cried out to the heavens many times over the years. But what he didn’t realize is every one of his questions would one day be answered.

His uniform identified him as a soldier from New Sienna. Now, years later, he’s fighting to believe that he was good soldier, and praying that he had never hurt an innocent person. As he fights to be a champion for the people, he lives with a phantom of guilt, from a life he cannot remember.

Max’s amnesia was hard hitting, and had proven to be long lasting. Over the last decade, and only glimmers of the past have come through. As his eyes opened to the sound of his rescuers, he felt instantly alone and utterly confused. Though Max was far from a child, he felt like a newborn baby, but without the tender familiar coo of a mother’s voice.

But, thankfully, he was not alone. The blessing of being found by such compassionate and brilliant minds, could have only come from The Creator himself. The first voice he heard, was that of Likka, soothing and calm. The second belonged to Pops, her husband. And his voice was far from soothing. It was this couple who took him in, nursed him back to health, and taught him the truth about this world.

Ever since then, he’s been a champion on a mission to right many wrongs and discover his true identity. Little did he know, at the beginning of this journey, that he was destined to help save the world from chaos and destruction.
