Camouflage, Capital City, Orchid Bee

Sometimes life seems to be moving a mile per minute. A whirlwind of discoveries and
adventures, time can fly by at lightning speed, disappearing into the past, never to be
seen again. That’s certainly how Ralph and Rebecca feel right about now. Fraternal
twins, Rebecca is the eldest, by five minutes. And she never lets her brother forget it.
With everything going on in their lives, she feels like she’s responsible for Ralph. So,
she’s always buzzing around trying to make sure everything is ok.

Conversely, Ralph worries about his sister taking everything so seriously. He knows
that times are tough. Yet he also feels that life is worth living and meant to be enjoyed,
no matter how hard things may get. He enjoys a good joke joke, and sometimes takes
things too lightly. It’s just that he understands he can’t control everything. Most of
the time he just tries to go with the flow and blend in with the rest of humanity.

It seems like only yesterday their parents first explained the history of their family.
Though the world believes Adroits are mere fairytales, the twins always knew the
stories were real. Their parents made sure of that. Though their family legacy was
impressive, Ralph and Rebecca had a unique calling on their lives.

Of course, every child has a special purpose. But what if yours was so special that
people had written about you thousands of years ago? Pretty heavy huh? Well that’s
the reality these two face everyday. The story is complicated, but needless to say, the
twins have a lot on their minds. Now sixteen years old, they’ve had powers for about
three years. However, they knew in their hearts that they were Adroits long before
their powers manifested.

As little kids they would stare into the sky dreaming about the different types of
powers that they could have. Never did they imagine what the future truly held in
store. Who could have known they would become Orchid Bee and Camouflage?!

When Ralph first began to disappear, Becca and their parents were thrilled. They
were also a bit nervous. Though they believed the stories passed down through the
generations, none of them had ever truly seen a person with powers before. It was
thrilling, and frightening. Scared or not, their powers had arrived.

Needless to say, everyone in the family, including Becca herself, nearly passed out
when she sprouted beautiful rainbow colored wings. Bees had always seemed to
follow her around. It was like they had some special attraction to her. Now, its like
she’s their queen and they respond to her every whim. It seems like only yesterday
they experienced that life changing transformation. Those were happy times.

Sadly, times have changed. Their entire lives are different. About a year ago, their
parents went on an archeological expedition and never returned. The world thinks
they are dead, but Rebecca and Ralph believe the opposite. The twins know their
parents are still alive. They are on a mission to find their parents before another year
rolls around. Aunt Eboni is trying to protect them, so are Max, Pops and Likka. But
when destiny calls, you’ve got to answer.

Curtis Perry – Investigative Reporter

For the past 50 years, Jackson & Jackson Paper Co. has been a staple in the community. Founded in 3023 by Conrad Jackson and his older brother Darryl, this company has been providing quality papers products for businesses in Capital City. Many have reviewed the company, saying that they provide the best products at the best prices. However today their offices lie empty as highly damaging reports circulate around the city.

This afternoon, CCPD Detectives intercepted a shipment headed out of the country. Inside the shipping container that was supposed to carry finely milled stationary, officers found a plethora of stolen goods.

Authorities confiscated stolen weapons, jewelry, and other luxury goods found inside the shipment. This discovery was fueled by an anonymous tip called into the precinct. The tipster refused to share their identity with the police. This, of course, was understandable. Anonymous tips come into their precincts all the time. However detectives feel that this tip was somehow different.

It seemed like the informant had direct, first-hand knowledge of the crime being committed. It was far from your everyday call from a little old lady suspicious of her new neighbors. Furthermore, this discovery led to the seizure of many more shipments, as well as the home office located in New Arkton.

When asked about their prime suspects, authorities shared only one name, Micheal King. He was recently promoted to General Manager, and had access to the resources needed to carry the smuggling plan out. Though it seems like he was a likeable guy, all the evidence points to him being the ring leader of the operation.

Though King has not been officially charged, he is wanted for questioning in this case. If you have any information as to the whereabouts of Michael King, be sure to contact the Capital City Police Department today. We must all do our part to keep the streets of Capital City safe.

Gomez allowed 1 run over 9 innings. He also racked up 10 strikeouts.

“I got everyone together and told them they did great today,” New Arkton manager Willard Johnson told ABN reporters after the game. “But I warned them that even if we make it out of the League Championship Series, it’s only going to get harder.”

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Monarchs Ballpark. The scheduled starters for the game are Hector Ramirez for the New Arkton Bears and Kenta Takano for the the Capital City Monarchs.

Capital City, SynerTech

The population of Capital City is growing leaps and bounds. Everyday more and more people move here and call it home. Every day, thousands of children are born increasing our population even more. The truth is, there’s no telling just how big our city will grow. That’s good news to some, but it could spell trouble if the city’s infrastructure cannot handle the rapid growth.

One ongoing concern for the Capital City Council has been the ability to supply adequate power to all citizens. Many may have experienced the recurring black and brown-outs that’s have been plaguing the city over the last few months. No one enjoys power outages. The folks on Capital Island know that something has to be done.

It appears a solution may be on the horizon! A new corporation has emerged in the clean energy race. And it seems like they may be taking the lead, at least in Capital City. SynerTech Energy is a start-up company committed to creating renewable, and sustainable energy, at a fraction of the current costs.

Many experts have scoffed at their claims, calling their proposed technology “Impossible!” However, they may be proving their critics wrong. Initial prototypes and testing all point toward success. What might be even better than the affordable, clean, energy technology, is SynerTech’s commitment to the community.

They are on a mission to help end homelessness in our fair city. The company president, Dr. Catherine Grow, made this statement at a recent press conference:

“It is our goal to help the environment and the community.Through clean energy, and providing jobs and stability to hundreds, even thousands of homeless people across the city, we can truly make a difference. Then, once we have succeeded here, we will take our mission across the world. Our transition and rehabilitation programs are aimed at the poorest of citizens to help them become productive members of society. We help them to use their energy in the optimal way, and become an outlet for their talents that have lied dormant and hidden for so long. We want to illuminate their lives in new and energizing ways!”

Her speech was well received by all. There has certainly been no shortage of volunteers for SynerTech’s new transition program. Of course, it’s no surprise that the Mayor has also given SynerTech his support in all of their endeavors.

Only time will tell if this new company is a bright and shining star, or another busted bulb promising results they cannot deliver.

Capital City, Leopardo Azul, New Sienna

The Militia has long been a powerful force to be reckoned with over the last twenty years. Their emblem has become synonymous with mercenaries, anarchy and overthrown governments. No-one knows exactly who they are, or where they can be found. But everyone knows they are extremely dangerous, and at times, ruthless.

As the mark of the Militia has been felt across the world, many question how they have been able to accomplish such feats. Their ability to infiltrate and gain control of such powerful governments has proven to be unmatched.

Leopardo Azul is major piece of the Militia’s mysterious puzzle. While most civilians continue to deny the existence of Adroits, Leopardo is busy blazing new trails . . . at nearly the speed of sound. Before you can blink an eye, he’s already gone! Most likely on his way to a major heist or something even more dubious.

Birthed from a long line of Adroits with super speed abilities, Lepardo hails from the nation of Albatina. His family has a history of power, prestige, and oppression. Being a merciless dictator wasn’t really his bag, so he ditched the family at a young age and set out to see the world. Of course, he took his fair share of the family’s riches with him.

With a healthy nest egg stashed away, Leopardo decided to use his power, training and connections to serve his own desires. Over the years he became an international gambler and thief, filling his days with fast cars and beautiful women. One day when he crossed paths with the man who would change his life forever… General Blackheart.

The General helped Leopardo see that he could be apart of something bigger than himself, and increase his wealth exponentially. The General’s proposal was more than intriguing, and Leopardo joined the ranks of The Militia with no hesitation. He quickly became one of the biggest and most lethal mercenaries in the world.

The Militia had been riding high for years, when suddenly a whirlwind of betrayal hit their team in a majorly painful way. They came out on the other side alive. Some say that what doesn’t kill you, only makes you stronger. They must have had Leopardo, The General and the rest of their team in mind. Now, they were stronger than ever before, and their fury felt like it could never be quenched.

Faster than he’d ever been in his life, Leopardo Azul seems to show no fear of what lies ahead. Is he truly fearless, or is it all a facade? Is he truly speeding furiously, trying to outrun the consequences of his past?

Adroit Comics, Capital City, Golden Bolt

The night is cool, and there’s an unsettling energy in the air. I’ve felt this feeling before. But it was so many years ago. When I was young man in Santina, I’d encountered another of my kind. Another Adroit with the power of speed crossed my path. The ensuing fight was swift, more of a sparring match really. It seemed as though we battled out of duty, not anger, or neccesity. However, that was when I knew the stories of my family’s past were true.

Centuries ago, the lands of Santina and Albatino were originally one great nation. Our family had ruled the land for centuries. The kings and queens of Tinéu had always been fair, compassionate and just. Blessed by an ancient legacy of Adroit powers, our clan had always been able to protect their land and citizens. For centuries the kingdom was prosperous and there were none that dared to challenge us.

Sadly, there came a day when turmoil began to ravage the land. In the year 2590, King Santiago passed away. Almost instantly, confusion broke out with everyone wondering, “Who would be the new ruler?” The king had left neither a will, nor an established heir. There were two contenders to the throne: Prince Albatino or Princess Santina. Both wanted to wear the crown. However, no-one knew how to choose which of his children should rule.

This conflict divided the nation in two. One faction believed Princess Santina should lead their nation. They felt that she was the eldest and more benevolent of the siblings. The other faction supported Prince Albatino. They believed that, though he was younger, his knowledge of war and international affairs would help the country to grow.

When no decision could be met, Prince Albatino and his followers declared war and seceded from the nation as a whole. Declaring their independence, the nation of Albatino was born. A territorial line was drawn and the, now two nations, fought furiously for years and years. As both siblings carried the Adroit genes, the powers continued to be passed down through the generations.

Centuries later, I was born. Early on I knew that I was carrying on our legacy of extraordinary speed. Each generation of our family yielded two speedsters. I am one. The other was born to our cousins, now turned mortal enemies. Each new protector of our family is called the Golden Bolt.

It is the Golden Bolt’s responsibility to help protect the nation. Blessedly, the century-long feud between our clans came to a truce. When it was my time to become the Golden Bolt, I told my parents that I wanted something different. Baseball was my love. With peace on the horizon, I’d hoped that I could pursue my dreams of playing professional baseball.

Thankfully, they agreed. I moved to New Sienna and played for the Avondale Fightin’ Mallards. For years, I was the best player in the league. My game showed no signs of slowing down. But one day, everything changed. My wife gave birth to a baby girl, and soon she proved to be far from average. Needing to protect her, I retired from baseball and moved to Sunnyside, on the outskirts of Capital City.

No matter what has happened, I never gave up being the Golden Bolt. Everyday I race to help save whoever I can. Now I can run this race with my daughter by my side. Training her has been no easy task, but she’s ready for the fight. At least I pray she is. There’s a speedy foe blazing around Capital City, and we’re on a mission to track him down. It’s my belief that an ancient legacy of war has come calling. If so, he’d better bring his best game, ‘cause I’m in it to win.

Adroit Comics, Bucky Hayes, New Arkton, New Arkton Bears, RBL Baseball

At the age of 22, Bucky Hayes of the New Arkton Bears could very well have his best years ahead of him.

It’s a startling thought when you consider the year he had in 3073 was good enough to win the center fielder the National League Most Valuable Player Award.

“See the ball, hit the ball,” he said. “That’s my basic approach.”

The top hitter put up a .411 batting average this year, as well as a .537 on-base percentage. He played 157 games and racked up 232 hits, 26 doubles, 15 triples, 56 home runs, 182 RBIs and 191 runs scored.

He received 23 first place votes out of a possible 24. Brian Duncan of the New Arkton Bears finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while Gary Cox of the New Arkton Bears finished third.

Adroit Comics, National Government, New Sienna, Nu’ZarEil

The great nation, now known as New Sienna, was once upon a time simply “Sienna.” But our Royal Families had the foresight and fortitude to bring about a revolution that would change the face of the world.

Sienna had once been a peaceful land, full of cooperative works and peoples from across the realm. The land of Sienna was rich with resources: freshwater, acres, and acres of timber, fertile soils, and caverns full of precious metals and gems. Over the centuries, the native ruling family had been welcoming and supportive of newcomers.

But there came a day when the ruling family lost their way. Becoming foolhardy and greedy, the young King Shemaha Salamalan changed everything. His edicts were harsh and disruptive to the citizens of Sienna, both native and foreign. Families across the land were in an uproar and fearful of what the future could bring. However, twelve leaders united the families of Sienna to fight back against the king’s tyrannous rule. As happens so many times in history, there was one person who stood up to make a difference. There was one person who inspired the citizens to take action for what is right. That man was Devin Vonderdöm, of the Vonderdöm clan. His ancestors had arrived on the shores of Sienna almost one hundred years before. Traveling from Old Arkton, his family had always worked in trading precious metals and resources. The Vonderdöm clan had built much wealth before migrating to Sienna and had earned even more since they’d settled. Seeing that his family’s livelihood was in jeopardy from the king’s new orders, the noble Vonderdöm knew that he couldn’t sit by and see all that they had worked for be lost.

From that moment forth, I knew that everything would be different. How could I bear witness to such transgressions as these and say nothing? How could I, Devin, from the long line of Vonderdöms, allow the rights of myself and my family to be usurped? The answer is simple, I could not, and would not go down in history as a side-note. The world would not look back and say that Devin Vonderdöm did not fight for his family’s freedoms. The freedom to live, the freedom to build, and the freedom of enterprise.

– Excerpt from Devin Vonderdöm’s Personal Diary circa 2885

With that understanding, he joined with other like-minded leaders of the community. Together these leaders worked to unite families across the land to resist the new laws that threatened their prosperity. They urged their followers to fight for the rights that had long ago been granted to their forefathers. These same rights should be due to them as well.

These leaders became known as the Royals of New Sienna, and their war has gone down in history as The Royal Rebellion of Sienna. Lasting for five years, many lives were lost. Many mourned the losses of this great nation and looked with hopefulness to the future. And what a wonderful future it proved to be.

Under the wise and considerate leadership of New Sienna’s Royal Families, our nation has become the most powerful in the realm. In this, all of our citizens should take pride.

Adroit Comics, Capital City, Capital City Mysteries, Curtis Perry, New Arkton

It was a brisk afternoon as I walked through the busy streets of New Arkton. My mind was moving still piecing together information from the many stories I was working on. But wasn’t that always the case? There was always another mystery to solve, another cover-up to uncover. However, today I had more on my mind than just work.

I’m not big on talking about feelings, emotions, and other sappy stuff like that. My life is based on cold, hard facts. But even guys like me have a heart. This afternoon my mind was consumed with both family and personal life. Both of these issues were big deals to me, even though I rarely, if ever, took personal time. Maybe that’s the problem.

Yesterday I had a big argument with my girlfriend. At least I hoped she was still my girlfriend. After that argument, I wasn’t too sure. We’ve been dating for a while, but it just seems like we’re on two different pages in life.

She was in the news biz too. But she looked at things differently than I did. My goal always has, and always will be to bust open the secret files of government officials, military operations, giant corporations, or anybody who is up to no good. She simply didn’t feel that way.

“Ahhhhhh,” I let out a groan of frustration.

The streets were filled with plenty of people walking about. A lady looked at me strangely as she passed by. I just shrugged my shoulders and kept walking. Women could be so confusing at times.

Step by step, second by second, I made my way through the crowded streets. It was easy to get lost in the shuffle of Capital City. Some days I could just walk and walk, letting the sounds of the city drown out my frustrations.

As I drew closer to my destination, my mind shifted to the other situation at hand. That family issue I mentioned before. Well, to be truthful, I don’t have too much family to speak of. My parents have been gone for some time now, and my siblings and I aren’t the best of chums. Though we do try to stay in touch. My sister Savannah lives on the other side of country. We send letters ever so often, and birthdays are celebrated with a call.

To the contrary, my brother Dexter, lives right here in Capital City. Sometimes he’s around New Arkton, sometimes he’s in Collinsville. You never quite know where he’ll end up. Dex is what some people would call a drifter always moving around from place to place. We both spent some time in the military, but it affected us differently. And he’s had a rougher time about it than me.

But no matter where he may be, we meet for lunch every month, at the same diner. It’s been a longstanding tradition of ours for years now. We even sit in the same booth every single time, never fail. It was always good to see him, and know that he was alright, even if he didn’t look all that great.

As I approached the diner entrance, I could see him standing to the side waiting for me. He never tried to go in before I arrived. He was always too nervous. I walked up to him and gave him a warm brotherly embrace.

“Dex! My main man! How’s it goin’ brotha’?” I asked with a smile.

“Oh it’s all good, little bro! How’ve you been?” He replied.

His smile was a little crooked, and his eyes seemed glassed over. Something about him was different. I took a step back and gave him a good look from top to bottom. He looked better than I’d seen him in a while. His clothes, shoes, hair, everything looked clean.

“What? You didn’t get all dressed up on my account, did you?” I joked and punched his shoulder.

“Aww man, naw,” he laughed, though he looked a little embarrassed.

“Come on,” I said, “Let’s grab our table. I’m starving!”

He just nodded and followed me inside.

When we were seated, I had to keep from staring at him. Sure, he looked cleaned up, but something just seemed different, odd, strange even. Not that the fella had been this pillar of normalcy over the years. But I was used to his scruffy face, and far off looks. This new version of Dexter had me wondering what was going on?

We ordered our food, and talked about things like we usually did. Then he let me in on his big news.

“I’m a little nervous talking about it,” he said between bites. “I just don’t wanna jinx it, you know? But here it is, I got new job!”

That was big news, and of course I was happy for the man.

“That’s great Dex! What kind of job?” I asked.

He paused for a moment, and looked off into the distance as though he was in deep thought.
“You know, I’m not really sure what I’ll be doing. Something about clean energy sources. Right now I’m in their ‘Transitionary Intake and Training Program’.”

Dexter stayed frozen in place for a few seconds. I stayed still myself, trying to figure out what was going on with him. Then suddenly, his trance broke and he went right back to eating.

Chewing slowly, I took a deep breath. “So, what’s the name of the company?”

“You know what,” he said with a smile “I can’t even remember!” He just laughed, shrugged, and kept eating his burger.”

I just tried to nod encouragingly. With Dex you never knew what to expect. I hoped that something good could come out of this.

After lunch, I usually tried to give him a few dollars to help out. But today he refused.
“It’s ok little bro, I don’t need it. I’m alright.”

“Are you sure? Man you know, like I always said, I’m here for you. You can come stay with me anytime. I hope things work out good with the job and all. But you can crash at my pad whenever you need to.”

“And what do I always say? I don’t want to give you my problems Curtis. Don’t worry about me,” he replied with a pat on my back.

As he walked away, my big brother shouted, “I’ll see you next month, same time, same place.”

“You know it!” I shouted back. I looked forward to next month and hoped Dex would have more good news.

Capital City, General Blackheart, New Sienna

A not-so-quiet murmur of panic is taking over Capital City. Citizens and city officials alike are asking: “Who is The Militia?” A mysterious rebellion group has emerged in Capital City. From New Arkton to Las Gracias, this gang of ruffians seems to be on a mission to take over the underworld.

Their notorious tag has now become synonymous with their mission of disruption. Every time they finish a job, they vandalize the establishment with their moniker emblazoned on the wall in spray paint. For the most part, it’s seemed as though their only targets were enterprises of ill-repute like gambling houses, racetracks, and counterfeit rings.

The Militia has even gained fans from rabble-rousers who feel they could be trying to clean up the streets. Some believe the information filling The Militia’s propaganda pamphlets circulating around the city. Filled with sensational calls to rebellion and touting allegations of corruption and deception, these pamphlets have local and national officials in an uproar.

Some don’t know which side The Militia is fighting for. Are they fighting the bad, to help the good? Are they only concerned with their own gains? Is this a campaign to bring down the Royals, or merely a ploy to gain control of New Sienna?

The latest string of attacks from The Militia has been different from their previous targets. Every other week for the past few months, various branches of The Vonderdom Bank have been hit by this group of vandals. With locations across the region, this has proven to be a major loss for The Vonderdom family. Most specifically, Donovan Vonderdom. The Director and CEO of the bank.

Not much is known about The Militia, or their mysterious leader, General Blackheart. Some say that he is an ancient being who has traversed the world, wreaking havoc wherever he goes. Whispers can be heard in the underworld of Capital City about General Blackheart. He’s a highly feared man. Many believe that he has no feelings, no heart to speak of. It’s been said that somehow it was stolen from him, and now he’s doing whatever he can to get it back.

No one knows for certain who he is, or where he’s come from. But all who have met General Blackheart fear him. Except for one man . . . Crimson Hawk.

Capital City, Capital City Mysteries, Eboni Stone, New Arkton, New Sienna

The young Mrs. King was visibly nervous, but she pushed through.

“Well, you see, Ms. Stone, Micheal has always been a good man. Sometimes he may get a little ahead of himself with all his crazy schemes and ideas, but he’s a good man,” she finished with an awkward chuckle.

Michael King, Michael King? Eboni’s focus shifted away from what Cherry was saying. Our detective was sure that she’d heard that name before.

“Michael King,” she interrupted, “ Sorry to cut you off, but I’m sure I’ve heard that name before. Cherry looked over at her mother-in-law nervously.

Eboni continued to think aloud, “Hmmm, didn’t I hear about him on the news? That’s right. If I’m not mistaken, his name was mentioned in a story about a paper company shipping stolen goods…”

Suddenly the elder Mrs. Duke rapped her cane on the wooden floor, making a loud thud.“My son is innocent!” she said in a surprisingly loud voice. Eboni was taken aback. She could see that this woman was passionate about her son, his innocence, and his whereabouts. Eboni only hoped that there was a happy ending to this tale.

“Well ma’am, I can say this. I don’t know your son personally, but it’s clear to me that he has at least two strong fighters in his corner,” Eboni said with (what she hope was) an encouraging smile.

“Can we count on you Mrs. Stone? Will you help us find my son? I don’t care what those police, or those know-it-alls on that television set have to say about my boy! I gave birth to him! Don’t you think I would know what he is and is not capable of?!”

Mrs. King eyes were pleading, though her voice tried to have some semblance of decorum. Eboni could tell that manners and propriety were highly important to her. So the emotion that she was showing certainly pulled at the detective’s heart strings.

Eboni sat silently for a moment, wanting to be delicate about her next words. She knew she couldn’t say what she was thinking — that many criminals had mothers who couldn’t believe it was true. A sigh escaped her lips as she silently prayed that this son would be an exception. “Alright, she began, “ I can’t make any promises. But, I can disregard whatever I may have heard on the news and listen to your story. I just need you to tell me everything you know, even if you think it looks bad for Mike. I give you my word that I will do whatever I can to help. I take it, you’re confident that he is innocent?” she asked, though of course she already knew the answer.

Cherry’s eyes lit up. It was obvious that she had so much to say, but wasn’t sure where to begin. However, Mrs. Edith’s face held a shadow of embarrassment.

“Ms. Stone,” she began, “I’d like to apologize for my outburst. I’ve just been so upset by the entire situation!”

“I can certainly understand Mrs. King. No apology needed. Believe me, I want to help. Just tell me what you know and we can go from there,” Eboni replied kindly.

They both let out a sigh of relief, she could see that they believed her. It was good they did because she meant every word. Cherry opened her mouth and a floodgate came rushing out.

Administrators of The Natural Museum of Capital City are upset and confused over, what many have called, an impossible robbery. The Quintessence Sapphire was stolen from its case last night. A national exhibition tour had been scheduled to begin today. The precious stone was to be shown around the country at museums in only the most prominent cities.

It has been rumored that this mysterious sapphire has quite the history. Some say it was owned by an ancient Royal family. Some even believe an outlandish tale involving powerful battles and inter-dimensional travel. It’s amazing what some people will believe nowadays.

No matter what you choose to believe, it obviously holds great value. Now, it is owned by a rather wealthy family of collectors, who wish to remain anonymous. Perhaps this latest incident will be just another addition to it’s rumored past.

These are the facts as we know them. The sapphire was held in a locked case. This case was placed in a secured room inside the museum. The only door to the secure room was watched by two armed guards who stood duty all night.

However, when the museum’s curator and director went to retrieve the gemstone, the case was empty. Of course, they were shocked, dismayed, and irate. They promptly alerted the authorities. Detectives rushed to the scene of the crime, eager to solve this mystery. As of yet, no clues have been reported, and the officers have no leads.

The Capital City Police Department is offering a reward for any information that can help them to solve this case. We’re sure the Museum and anonymous owners of the Quintessence Sapphire hope it can be recovered, and not simply vanish, adding another mystery to its history.

Every child indeed holds the potential for greatness. In each of us, there has been planted a seed to accomplish great things. If that seed is watered, nurtured, and loved, then the sky is the limit!

It is also true, that some beings have been implanted with supernatural powers – powers greater than many of us can even comprehend. Of course, one can dream of flying or running at the speed of sound. In our mind’s eye, we could possibly feel the wind in our face, or the exhilaration of the speeding through the city. But the true ramifications and consequences of such powers, those we can’t possibly understand.

Gabriella “Gabby” Cruz understands. Well, she’s learning to understand. Being a teenager is hard enough without knowing that you have to help save the world. But she’s up to the challenge! At least she hopes that she’s ready.

Born to an Adroit father and mother, Gabby has always known about her family’s legacy. It’s one she’s always been proud of, though she’s never been able to tell anyone. Pink Lightning is one of those divinely appointed beings, gifted with great powers, and even greater responsibilities. Adroit powers run in her family, literally and figuratively. Her father is known as The Golden Bolt and is one of the fastest humans the world has ever seen. But his daughter is even faster than he.

Her parents often speak about her first speedy dash, when she was only five years old. She ran out of the door with so much velocity that her father had to run at almost full speed to catch her. Oh, how she squealed as she blazed through the wheat fields of their farm, leaving a streak of pink lighting behind her. That was the day she received her special name.

Turning into a young woman, Gabby has yearned to make real friends, with whom she can share her life’s biggest secret. That she is Pink Lightning, the sweetly pink, crime-fighting speedster, helping to protect the citizens of Capital City. She loves being an Adroit, but emotionally, it’s beginning to wear on her. She feels tremendous responsibility at such a very young age.

At fifteen years old, most girls are thinking about school work, their first date, and possibly wearing make-up for the first time. Gabby thinks about all these things, but she has the added stresses of trying to break the sound barrier and keeping the powers of darkness at bay. Add in an overly protective father trying to keep her safe at every turn, and she feels pretty overwhelmed at times. She hopes that one day soon, he’ll realize she’s not a little girl anymore. And that if she’s ever going to reach her full potential, he must let her run free.

But until that day, she knows that she’ll always be Daddy’s Little Girl. And it’s quite alright, since she’s not ready to grow up, just yet. Teenager or not, Pink Lightning is one powerful Adroit, who should not be underestimated. True light banishes darkness, and this young lady leaves a trail of bold and blazing light, wherever she goes

My eyes felt too heavy to keep open. I quickly fell into a deep sleep. What happened next had to be a dream, but it seemed too real.

I was walking down a city street. The children were out playing. A few dogs were barking. The sun was shining and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Man, it was a SPEC-TAC-U-LAR day!

As I continued to walk down the street, without a single care in the world, I look over to the middle of the street. I see a baby carriage. As I’m running over to the carriage, I thank the Father that no cars are coming. But I also wonder where in the world was the child’s Poppa and Momma?!

When I get to the carriage I see the most beautiful child smiling back at me. I immediately felt a peacefulness flow through me. I don’t think that I have been so full of joy in all my life.

As I played with the baby, it began to cry. Some how this beautiful child, who was so full joy, became so sad, full of misery, and apparently terror! For I minute I thought it was me, so I put the baby back in it’s carriage. That made the child scream to the top of it’s lungs. So I immediately picked the baby back up. After the child was back in my arms, I noticed that the streets were empty! The children were gone. There were no dogs barking . . the world was filled with silence. Suddenly, the sky started to turn red! I knew I had to get this precious child to safety, so I grabbed the baby and started running for dear life. I looked back and saw a sea of darkness taking over the city. The streets, the cars, the buildings were all being consumed by this wave of darkness. And it was gaining fast! I was running faster than I’d ever run in my life, but the darkness was still closing in on me. Just as the all consuming abyss was about to grab hold of me, I jumped up and sprouted wings!

I couldn’t believe it! I actually had wings! But the darkness wasn’t done yet. It morphed into giant black birds ready to devour us. One of the birds opened it’s mouth, and I saw what appeared to be a fiery lost soul trapped in the mouth of that hideously foul fowl.

I needed to get out of there fast and those wings were just what I needed to do it. I started to climb so high that the darkness couldn’t follow. I knew that if I kept flying toward the light, we would be fine. Then the strangest thing happened.

I heard a voice coming down from the skies above. It sounded soothing and familiar.
“Everything will be alright . . .”

To be continued.

There was a legend
Told long ago
About a Flower
Made of glowing gold.
But of course,
This was no
Ordinary stone.
For it many have died
But it has also saved
Many Souls . . .

Many centuries ago, The Great War raged across Nuzar’Eil as the forces of Light and Darkness battled for control of our realm. There was a brave man named Aapo Gabor who fought with valor against forces of Darkness.

When the war was won by Divinity’s greatest warriors, they lauded the valiant humans who fought on the side of Light. Because of his righteousness and fearlessness in battle, Aapo Gabor was appointed a king of his land.

The Heavens bestowed upon him an intricately carved stone that glowed an enchanting shade of gold. It’s shine beamed like the sun. I was encased in a beautifully crafted amulet on a golden chain.

The newly appointed King Aapo could feel the warmth radiating from the glowing amulet as the Guardian’s leader placed it around his neck.

“This amulet will always radiate the truth of the heart of whosoever wears it. As long as the bearer lives a life of truth, love and benevolence, the land will prosper and radiate hope throughout the world. But if the heart of the bearer turns towards Darkness, the stone will slowly turn from gold to silver – casting a cold and toxic light on all within its reach.”

King Aapo vowed to remain steadfast and true to The Heavens for the rest of his days, and that he would teach his future heirs to do the same. And he did. King Aapo remained true to his word. He taught his sons and daughters to live a life of truth and righteousness. As the years passed on, the Sungold Gem was passed on from generation to generation, until fourteen generations and had come and gone. It was then things began to change.

The Young King Ishtak’s now held the throne. He was different. Ishtak’s heart that was different from his father’s, and his father’s before him. His thought’s concerned only himself, his comfort, and his power. He began to make decisions that were not in the kingdom’s best interest so that his riches could grow. Then came the year, of the terrible tragedy.

A deadly plague consumed the kingdom leaving many dead. One of the lives lost was Ishtak’s beautiful queen. In sorrow and rage, the heart of King Ishtak turned even darker He became untrusting and vengeful. The bitter cold that resided in his heart was passed on to his son, and so on, and son for fourteen more generations. With each new king, the land grew darker and the people’s despair grew thicker and thicker.

What were once bountiful fields overflowing with crops, had now become barren land. The crystal river that once flowed through the kingdom, providing fresh water and an abundance of fish, now murkily trickled across the devastated land. And all of the creeks dried up. It seemed as if the very rain had ceased to fall.

As the land stopped producing, the people’s suffering continued to grow. The royal family had fallen far from their patriarch King Aapo Gabor, who had taken the oath to serve The Heavens and care for his people. Their kingdom had turned from one of peace and prosperity, to one of war and hunger.

With no crops, the newest heir, King Cadmael, had turned to mining and weaponry to attack other kingdoms for the food and goods he needed. But when things became unbearable, the people decided they had had enough and it was time to leave.

Hoping to find a new place to settle and forge a life of freedom, many people anxiously began their exodus. However the dark-hearted King knew that his subjects were the only assets of any value he had left. With the lands barren and creeks dry, the people had to stay to work his mines and make his weapons.

So he refused to let them leave. Those hoping to escape were met by the King’s army. The one’s brave enough to fight were either killed or imprisoned. Terrified, the families returned to their homes and cried out to The Heavens for deliverance from the cold-hearted King Cadmael’s reign of darkness.

Their cries were heard and Divinity sent Thirteen Adroit Warriors to set the good people free. The Warriors made their way into the kingdom under the cloak of night. With the speed, finesse and powers of The Light, they quickly bound the kings army and transported the people to safety.

With the subjects now safely away from the dark kingdom, the warriors turned their attention to the king’s palace to take back the amulet that the Guardians had gifted to his ancestor centuries ago.

The king’s guards fought tooth and nail to protect their leader. But they were no match for The Warriors of The Light. In a final attempt to save his life and the amulet, the wicked King called on the Forces of Darkness to fight for him.

Unbeknownst to his kingdom, King Cadmael had fully turned to Darkness and lost all sight of The Light his forefathers had pledged their lives to so very long ago.

A ferocious battle ensued as The Thirteen fought their way to complete the mission. The Warriors’ leader retrieved the amulet by swiftly ending the king’s life with one bold slash of the sword.

Immediately their leader signaled for The Warriors to retreat. They followed his order and only a few moments later he activated the amulet’s self-destruct mechanism. A piercing explosion of light that erupted from the amulet destroying all evil in its path. Their leader was lost in the explosion. But the twelve warriors who remained never forgot what happened that day. Neither did the people who were rescued from the earth of the wicked king Cadmael.

The legend goes on to say that the glowing stone that lied at the center of the amulet was known as the Sungold Gem. Many believe that it could never be destroyed. It was too important and too powerful. It is believed that upon the explosion, it flew high into the sky and landed far, far away. Now hidden, it waits for a soul that bears a heart of gold to be its next keeper…

Max Norton sits at his desk contemplating what the day would hold in store. There was always an adventure waiting and another mystery to solve. But honestly, he wouldn’t mind just a bit of peace and quiet.

Perhaps today would be that day. A day filled with nothing but the New Arkton bears game on television tonight. Shoot, he might even spring for a pair of tickets. He hadn’t treated himself to any fun in a while. He went to pick up the phone, going to the game didn’t sound too bad. Maybe they still had a few tickets left.

Just then, a knock came at his door. . .
